Stoneware Button Making Class

Saturday, April 13, 10 a.m. to 12 noon and Saturday, April 20, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Make two sets of seven stoneware buttons during the first class. Come back the next week to wax and glaze them. This class will include fun with design when you make them and color when you glaze them. Cost: $33 per person. Special request: Frappuccino bottles are needed for this class to use as part of the process in making the buttons. If anyone has any (whether or not you are going to take the class), please contact Susan so she can arrange to get them.
 

Pysanky (Ukrainian Easter Egg) Class

pysankySaturday, March 2, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Art Studio at the Szilagyi Center in Rowlesburg.
The name Pysanky derives from the verb pysalty which means "to write". Take a four hour class at the Art Studio in the Szilagyi Center and learn the art of writing on eggs with a kistka and bees wax. Colorful designs will be created using a wax-resist (batik) method and vivid non-edible dyes. Instruction will be provided by Bernice Schwarzenberg who has been creating pysanky for many years. Fall Pottery Classes

photo2Pottery classes are being offered at the Szilagyi Center in Rowlesburg this fall. Hand-building classes begin on Sunday, September 9, with a slab-built cup. Other projects this fall will include a candlestick, a votive, and a Christmas ornament. There will also be an 8-week wheel-throwing pottery class for beginners. Grand Opening of Art Studio

Inside the new art studio at the Szilagyi CenterThe Grand Opening of the Art Studio at the Szilagyi Center in Rowlesburg was held on Friday, May 27, 2011, at the River City Festival of the Arts. It was attended by approximately twenty-five people including Katie Wolfe Orescanin, Chair of the Rowlesburg Revitalization Committee and Anna Nassif, Chair of the River City Festival.

The Rowlesburg Revitalization Committee (RRC) applied for a grant from a private foundation with the enthusiasm and support of members of the Arts Council. The grant provided funds for the purchase of four pottery wheels, an electric kiln, start-up supplies for pottery classes, and some of the expenses of renovating the room.

Artists Join Friends of the Cheat Event

foc5On Saturday, August 25, three artists participated in the Friends of the Cheat's Summer Send-Off Concert. Susan Ramey, Gail Anderson, and Rob Riffe set up their artwork under the pavillion at the Friends of the Cheat Festival Grounds near Albright, West Virginia. Festival-goers were treated to four different musical acts, the weather was absolutely gorgeous, and the event raised money for Friends of the Cheat. Arts Preston artists also participate in the Art Market at Cheat Fest which is held the first Saturday in May.
